Volunteer With Us
Scouting only happens because of volunteers. Whether you have two hours a week or two hours a month, there is a role that will suit you — and no previous Scouting experience is needed.
We currently have the following vacancies:
Chairperson — Trustee Board
Lead our Group Executive Committee, chairing quarterly meetings and supporting the strategic direction of the group. This is a governance role, not a hands-on leadership role.
What we’re looking for:
- An interest in the development of young people
- Experience of chairing meetings or committee work
- No Scouting experience required — full induction provided
Group Lead Volunteer
Lead the day-to-day running of 1st Blofield & Brundall Sea Scouts, working with section leaders and the Trustee Board to keep the group moving forward. This is the senior volunteer role for the group — you are the main point of contact for families, the District, and the Scout Association.
What we’re looking for:
- A passion for young people and the values of Scouting
- Confidence working with volunteers, trustees, and external organisations
- Organisational ability and willingness to take on a key leadership role
- No prior Scouting experience required — full support and induction provided
Treasurer — Trustee Board
Look after the group’s finances as a member of our Group Executive Committee. Our current Treasurer steps down at the end of the year, so there will be a full handover period to help you settle in. You’ll keep the accounts, report to the committee, and help the trustees meet their charity reporting duties.
What we’re looking for:
- Comfort with numbers and basic bookkeeping (you don’t need to be a qualified accountant)
- Careful, organised and reliable
- No Scouting experience required — full induction and handover provided
Beaver Section Team Member
Help plan and deliver our Beaver programme (ages 6–8), working alongside the section team on Monday evenings, 5:30–6:45pm, at our Headquarters in Blofield. Games, crafts, and first adventures outdoors — it’s a fun and rewarding way to get involved, and you don’t need to take on a leadership role straight away.
What we’re looking for:
- Enthusiasm and reliability
- Patience and a sense of fun with younger children
- No experience needed — full training provided by the Scout Association
Scout Section Team Member
Help plan and deliver our Scout programme (ages 10½–14), working alongside the section team on Thursday evenings and occasional weekend activities. This is a great entry point into volunteering — you don’t need to take on a leadership role straight away.
What we’re looking for:
- Enthusiasm and reliability
- Good communication with young people
- No experience needed — full training provided by the Scout Association, including a nationally recognised youth work qualification
A genuine perk: as a Sea Scout volunteer you’ll have the opportunity to get out on the water at our Brundall waterbase — sailing, canoeing, and paddleboarding — with the chance to train as a paddlesports or sailing instructor through British Canoeing and RYA pathways. If you’ve ever wanted to get on the water, this is a great way to do it.
