Urgent roles
Roles we urgently need to fill include:
- Group Chair – this role would suit an organised person from a business background or with some knowledge of Scouts, who is happy to run Trustee Board meetings (currently six per year)
- Group Treasurer – we are looking for someone who is organised and methodical with a head for numbers (there is no need to have an accounting background)
- Cub Scout Leader – you’ve seen them in action, basically someone amazing can do this role!
- Safeguarding Lead for RYA (Waterbase) and the Group – perhaps a teacher or social worker who has some safeguarding experience in their work
Other roles
- Assistant Section Leaders for any section (weekly meetings)
- Trustee board members (currently six meetings per year)
- Parent representatives act as the voice of parents to help guide what is needed, be part of the welcoming committee for the parents of new joiners into each section
For the above roles you will need to undertake Scout Safety and Safeguarding online training – about 1.5 hours, for roles involving working with the children a DBS check (utility bill and ID) is required and there may be additional training modules required.
Sub Committees
We operate a number of sub committees to help with the operation of the group:
- Fundraising – type of activities include planning and running events, advertising, getting sponsorships/grants, helping hands – help out at events, aking, setting up, serving etc
- Maintenance – type of activities include organising safety checks, general upkeep
- Waterbase – including looking after the craft and buildings
- Headquarters – type of activities include upkeep of all our equipment in the garage, packing/unpacking after camps/events, website updates
Each sub committee will:
- Have meetings – monthly/quarterly/ad hoc (decided by the sub committee).
- Have a leader and/or secretary – who will align with and send an email report to the Group Scout Leader on the committee’s activities in advance of the next Trustee Meeting.
- Provide basic details (name, DOB, address, email, phone) for us to hold on the Scout record system, so that you are covered by the group insurance.
It is not expected that sub committee members will have a particularly onerous role, but would allow us to have people to call on to help the group when needed and allow the leaders to focus on activities. The more people we have, the less time is required from everyone.
